Back to the Oscar Fashions

OK, I'm slow. It's been a busy month for me, so I am just now getting back to the fashions from the Oscars. But, what the heck. We'll keep stretching the Academy Award discussion out, keep the Oscars alive until the next ones, or at least until the next awards show. I love red carpet stuff. I love talking about the fashions. And today, I'm talking about some fashion missteps.

I have to say that I actually like the dress Amy Adams wore to the show. The color is beautiful and the cut looks so good on her. (Love the chunky necklace as well.) The one small issue I have with this gown is the way it has been "attached" on the front; that little bit of fabric that seems to have been brought up and hooked there. I think it would have looked much better without that little detail.

I adore Melissa Leo; have been a fan since her days on Homicide: Life in the Street. This is one of the few times I have been disappointed in her. The dress itself is actually pretty nice, a real classy design. My problem is with the color. It matches her hair almost perfectly, which is a mistake.

This is another one of those dresses that are both good and bad. Marissa Tomei is a beautiful woman and the dress is beautiful for the most part. The problem I have is when it goes toward the bottom. It's a bit much for me there, and is almost heading in the direction of the mermaid dress (see below).

Vanessa Hudgens and Melissa George both opted for mermaid dresses. I really hate this style. It isn't at all flattering if you ask me, and since you're reading my blog you must have asked, and it looks so totally awkward when it comes to walking across the floor...much less up the steps to the stage. It's just plain ugly.

This brings me to Diane Lane. I love her and thought she looked beautiful. The dress was perfect, until you get to the bottom. There's that little mermaid type thing again. At least hers wasn't as bad as the two previously mentioned.

And this thing Heidi Klum wore was just...just...well, bad. The cut and design...I just don't know what the designer was thinking.

Natasha Richardson 1963 - 2009

Natasha Richardson (45) passed away yesterday after a fall Monday on a ski slope in Canada. A very accomplished actress known for roles in the remake of The Parent Trap with Lindsay Lohan, The Handmaid's Tale and Nell with Jodie Foster and Liam Neeson, whom she married in 1994, Richardson was a part of the Redgrave acting dynasty. She was the daughter of Vanessa Redgrave, niece to Lynn Redgrave and sister to Joely Richardson of Nip/Tuck.

Richardson and Neeson have two sons together. My thoughts and sympathies go out to the entire family. Their loss is also a great loss to the world of theater and movies.

The Quiet Man

For your St. Patrick's Day viewing pleasure, I highly recommend The Quiet Man. If you haven't seen it yet, where have you been? If you have, then you know just how good this one is.

John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara were a wonderful pair. The chemistry between them was perfect. I just wish they had made even more movies together.
